Dr. Marwan Alzaylaie is a geotechnical engineer with over 20 years of experience in both industry and academia. Since 2006, he has served as the Senior Manager of Geotechnical Engineering at the Dubai Development Authority (DDA), where he oversees complex geotechnical designs and construction. His responsibilities include overseeing foundation design, soil stability, retaining systems, soil improvement, groundwater control systems, and geotechnical construction site supervision. From 2002 to 2006, Dr. Alzaylaie worked as a Civil Engineer for Sharjah Municipality, where he was involved in monitoring, controlling, and inspecting construction projects at various stages. In addition to his professional role, Dr. Alzaylaie has been an Adjunct Faculty member at Heriot-Watt University Dubai since 2015, where he teaches geotechnical engineering and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research. In 2021, he furthered his academic involvement by joining Abu Dhabi University’s College of Engineering as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Civil Engineering Department. Dr. Alzaylaie earned his PhD in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt) in Germany, with research focused on the “Stiffness and Strength of Dubai Sedimentary Rock.” He also holds a B.Sc. (2002) and an M.Sc. (2008) in Civil Engineering from the University of Sharjah (UoS). He has published numerous research papers and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. Dr. Alzaylaie has actively contributed to organizing various international conferences. He is a founding member and the current Secretary & Treasurer of the Deep Foundation Institute (DFI) Middle East and a founding member of the Geotechnical & Material Engineering Committee within the Society of Engineers-UAE. Additionally, he previously served on the ISSMGE Technical Committee TC 217 on Land Reclamation.
